This article assesses how Qatar's industrial development puts the environment at risk and threatens ecosystem services and biological diversity. It particularly focuses on the country's efforts to counter these threats by developing the legislation, regulatory bodies and management agencies for successful ecosystem management and conservation. Finally, the author discusses difficulties in implementing these protective measures due to a lack of scientific expertise and trained manpower.
