This paper examines Georgia's policy toward Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Its first part provides an overview of the origins of the conflicts in Abkhazia and South Ossetia and then considers in details the conflicts' evolution in the 1990s. The second part considers the internal and international conditions and how they influenced the development of the conflicts. The final part assesses the prospects of President Saakashvili's policy on these conflicts.
