This paper presents the ethnic, historical, social and economic context of the Kosovo crisis and shows its regional and global dimensions. It first outlines the historical background of the Albanian-Serb conflict over Kosovo and then considers the evolution of the conflict from 1989 to 1999. Further, it analyzes the eight years of Kosovo being an international protectorate and discusses Albanian-Serb relations in Kosovo since 1999. The final part looks at the process of regulating the status of Kosovo.
