This paper examines the role of the European Parliament (EP) and national parliaments of EU member states in terms of scrutinizing operations in the framework of the European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP). Furthermore, it sets out policy recommendations for improving EP oversight of ESDP missions and reviews the parliamentary oversight in France, Germany, Poland, Romania, Spain and the UK. The paper argues that it is feasible to involve parliament at an early stage of the ESDP decision-making process.
