This brief looks at how the competition for diplomatic recognition between China and Taiwan is destabilizing island states and undermining Australia's interests in the region. It examines the case of the Solomon Islands as a battleground in this contest. The author discusses in particular Australia's stake, concerns and role in the regional competition.
