This brief discusses the importance of the Persian Gulf to Australia's security. It outlines the nature of Australia's interests in the region and offers a policy approach to the security engagement in the region and with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The author proposes that Australia finds itself a key regional partner with whom to develop a strategic partnership and suggests the United Arab Emirates as the most suitable candidate.
