Why did Igor Dodon, the Socialist Party candidate, win Moldova’s presidential election on 13 November 2016? According to this paper, Dodon benefitted from 1) the political backing of Moscow; 2) the additional backing and covert support of local media mogul Vladimir Plahotniuc; and 3) the possible role played by voter fraud.
