This brief discusses a possible destabilizing nuclear arms race between China and the US. It shows the risk of such an arms race in light of the US missile defense and the threat of hostility between the countries. The author argues that the two could avoid this by reaching a bilateral arms control agreement. He suggests that Australia could take the lead in promoting such an agreement.
