This report summarizes a keynote address by Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Araz Azimov to a Brussels audience in May 2008 and a consequent question and answer session. It shows that Azerbaijan and Brussels have a mutual interest in increased dialogue although the EU’s approach to the southern Caucasus is still being tested. It also states that Azerbaijan has a key role to play in European energy security as well as that the merits of missile defense and NATO and EU expansion in the southern Caucasus are open to question.
