The publication investigates whether aid from private donors is better targeted than international assistance administered by NGOs in relation to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The authors compare the recipients of aid from packaged food company Nestle to that of official Swiss donors and NGOs. Estimates are based upon three models: Cragg’s-two part model, the Heckman model and Tobit model. The authors contend that Nestle’s aid is linked to countries where it has a commercial presence rather than countries with severe levels of poverty.
