This publication first examines Serbia's democratic transition and then presents articles using identity-based explanations to analyze political divisions in Serbia and the western Balkans. The authors of the first section challenge the capacity of conventional concepts to explain Serbia's unconsolidated democracy. In the second section, the authors take identity-based perspectives to address security-related issues in the western Balkans. The third section presents comments on Serbian draft legislation in the security and defense field.
