The publication investigates the social costs of health-related retirement in Germany. The authors estimate individual retirement behavior through the construction of a health gradient and aggregated models. The study measures two variables - income and subjective health status - building on the insights of previous surveys conducted by WHO and OECD. According to the authors, the social cost of health-related early retirement is tantamount to €60 billion and is underreported in government statistics.
