The publication analyzes the links between international services outsourcing, domestic outsourcing, profits and innovation using plant-level data from the Republic of Ireland. The author’s analysis is based on the hypothesis that international outsourcing of services affect plant innovation activity considerably more than domestic modes of manufacturing. The study concludes that, in the context of Ireland, internationally sourced services have a positive effect on firms’ profitability.
