This publication examines the effects of trading on the environment and the role of technology in reducing levels of pollution. It offers an analysis of the abatement efforts of domestic and exporting firms in the UK based on data generated from 1998 to 2002. The authors conclude the results are consistent with the theory that exporters reduce the fixed cost of environmental abatement over their wider output base.
