Publication

May 2008

The publication assesses whether transitivity empirically holds for the evaluation of health states. The authors perform classroom experiments to observe errors in medical decision-making. The design features two tests: a pretest with 40 subjects; and a main test with 98 subjects who are presented with alternative treatments. The results suggest practical applications of health utility measurement may not be substantially biased by violations of transitivity. The authors argue the results are consistent with other recent experimental studies.
