This paper suggests that Orientalism and anti-communism were the causes of the collision of America with the Arab world between 1945 and 1970. The author analyzes this period, dividing it into two phases: the period between 1945 and 1958, characterized by Washington’s approach of equating Orientalism with communism; and the period from 1959 to 1970, when the two were viewed as distinct approaches.
