The four articles in this edition of the CTC Sentinel focus on 1) how al-Qa`ida lost control of its Syrian affiliate, Jabhat al-Nusra; 2) the United Arab Emirates-led efforts to counter al-Qa`ida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) and build security in south Yemen; 3) how Hezbollah promotes a culture of martyrdom among its followers; and 4) the US Homeland Security Investigations’ cooperative efforts with Europol to identify returning foreign fighters and prevent terrorist attacks.
