This paper reviews the anxious predictions about the future of the global economy and how Australia might minimize the effects of a potential downturn, including exploiting its human capital. It’s not going to help, however, that 1) the global competition for skilled migrants will increase; 2) the political costs of greater workforce participation will grow; and 3) that wealth disparities in Australia will get worse.
