This paper examines the rise and fall of Russian-Turkish relations during the Putin-Erdoğan era. In particular, the text’s author discusses whether 1) the relationship between these two regimes is ultimately doomed to fail; 2) their foreign policy differences over Syria are too difficult to overcome; and 3) Turkey’s regional aspirations are compatible with Russia’s desired role in the Middle East.
