This brief examines 1) the challenges Ukraine faces in its energy sector; 2) the prominent place the sector has in the country’s economy; and 3) the energy reforms Kiev pursued in 2015, which were seemingly radical, extensive and yet “sensible.” The text’s author also outlines what next-step reforms the Ukrainian government should pursue and how the transatlantic community might aid its efforts.
