This report examines the often underappreciated influence “positive peace” –referring to attitudes, institutions and structures that create and sustain peaceful societies- has in establishing environments that maximize human potential. After outlining the IEP Positive Peace Index’s global rankings and findings on key trends, the report goes on to look at 1) the application of systems thinking to the nation state; 2) how positive peace as a measure provides a way to assess a country’s ability to plan for and respond to change or shocks; and 3) how the IEP’s positive peace framework provides an insight for policymakers into the factors that help countries move towards peace.
