This paper speculates on China's relations with Central/Eastern Europe in the wake of the November 2016 16+1 Riga Summit, which sought to foster a sense of connectivity among attending states and generate greater maritime cooperation between them. The text’s author additionally argues that the 16+1 initiative has become a key component of Chinese foreign policy, primarily because it has strengthened the country's status as a major international power and helped promote its Silk Road initiative.
