This paper is the result of a research project at the University of Zurich examining the transformation of the national political space in Western Europe. The paper investigates the assumption that the process of globalization or denationalization has led to the creation of a new structural conflict in Western European countries between globalization's "winners" and "losers" and examines whether this conflict will lead to increased political mobilization within the national political contexts. To this end, the authors compare how political parties in Switzerland and France have adapted to articulate the interests of their supporters.
