The Butler Committee was established to investigate intelligence coverage available on weapons of mass destruction (WMD) programs of countries of concern and on the trade in these weapons systems. More specifically, it was also tasked with investigating the accuracy of UK intelligence on Iraqi WMD programs and to examine and evaluate any discrepancies between the intelligence used by the UK government before the conflict and the findings of the Iraq Survey Group since the end of the 2003 conflict. This report presents the committee’s findings and makes recommendations on the future gathering, evaluation and use of intelligence.
