Well, can 3D printing technology help produce a nuclear weapon? This paper contends that 1) there are many barriers to manufacturing a complete nuclear weapon with 3D technology, and 2) the ‘printing’ process gives little or no advantage to a non-state proliferator, or even a state, that’s trying to build a weapon on the sly. Despite these truths, the text’s author nevertheless suggests ways for European states to build up and maintain an awareness of cases where 3D technology could help bypass nuclear proliferation barriers.
