In September 2018, more than 100 UN member states signed the Declaration of Shared Commitments as part of the secretary-general’s Action for Peacekeeping (A4P) initiative. This publication takes stock of progress by the UN and member states in implementing the Action for Peacekeeping (A4P) initiative since this signing. More specifically, the text’s author looks at A4P’s implementation efforts along its three components: 1) efforts internal to the UN; 2) those dependent on member states, and 3) those reliant on the combined efforts of the UN, member states, and the multilateral organizations that endorsed the declaration. He concludes with recommendations on how to make A4P more relevant.
