This JEMIE issue focuses on trans-ethnic coalition building within and across states. The articles specifically focus on 1) the coalition-building efforts of minorities in the Republic of Macedonia; 2) the opportunities for trans-ethnic cooperation within and across Serbia, and the role of National Minority Councils (NMCs) as instruments of non-territorial autonomy; 3) the different ways of coalition-building, with a particular emphasis on the role of ethnic hierarchies within states; and 4) trans-ethnic organizational forms found within post-Soviet states.
