This RAD edition examines Russia’s strategy on a number of security issues. First, Julian Cooper assesses the impact that the recent reforms of the armed forces and renewal of armament stocks will have on Russia’s future military spending. Second, Pavel K Baev considers how the Russian leadership will reconcile their desire for a “great naval power” status with budget cuts on shipbuilding. Third, Stacy Closson focuses on the developmental aspects of Russia’s securitization of the Arctic. Fourth, Mariya Omelicheva explores the consequences of the 2014 economic crisis for Russian counterterrorism measures.
