This article addresses the likelihood of US President Trump winning another term in 2020 as well as what this could mean for China. The authors argue that Trump’s re-election is more likely than a win by a Democratic Party candidate, and that this will be uncomfortable for Beijing. For instance, they suggest that China would find dealing with a Democratic president—who could potentially focus on a “Green New Deal” policy—far easier than a second-term Trump administration, which will be much harder to predict and counter.
