This piece discusses the future of Myanmar’s relations with the new Trump administration. The text’s author specifically argues that Myanmar wants additional US support and military engagement, and that Washington should honor this desire because of Myanmar’s geopolitical importance, the possibilities that exist for US investment, and the local support the Trump regime presently enjoys. The author closes his analysis by offering several policy options for both countries, including a bilateral trade deal or involving Myanmar’s armed forces in future peacekeeping operations.
