Answering the above question is difficult, argues this brief’s author, because the socialization process takes place in a number of different settings, ranging from informal personal encounters to the media. What we do know is that insecurity, uncertainty and isolation provide rich loam for intolerant narratives, and that “refugee warriors” do impact inter-group dynamics when they return to their country of origin.
