This paper assesses small arms availability in the Republic of Congo following the formal disbanding of militias and cessation of fighting in 1999. It focuses on a number of issues related to the profile and distribution of weapons in the possession of non-state actors. The authors conclude that there is a correlation between the widespread availability of weapons and related threats to human security.
