This publication examines the political dynamics between participants in the second Sudanese civil war, specifically the origins of the armed group constituted by the Nilotic people of Southern Sudan, known as the White Army. The author highlights the factors that influenced shifting alliances between the White Army and that of the Sudanese government and rebel organization; Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM). It concludes that the SPLM’s response to the White Army contributed to large-scale violence that resulted in the loss of many lives.
