This paper takes stock of recent developments in Sino-Japanese relations, including how government officials, the media, and public figures have all contributed to the mutually negative perceptions both countries have of each other. As the text's author sees it, each side has systematically overestimated the threat posed by the other, which has led to increasingly pernicious consequences for bilateral relations and regional stability.
