This paper suggests a number of policies that the incoming US presidential administration could implement in order to meet the country’s energy priorities and establish a framework for further measures in the future. The recommendations include the following: 1) prioritize the modernization of the US’ energy infrastructure; 2) reverse the US Congress' decision to draw down the country’s emergency oil reserves in order to plug budget holes that are unrelated to energy security; 3) create a formal Assistant Secretary of State position for the Bureau of Energy Resources; 4) increase federal investments in new and advanced energy technologies; and 5) prioritize the improved collection and dissemination of global energy market data.
