This paper examines how the explosive growth in social media use among Libyans has facilitated the online trade in small arms and light weapons. More specifically, the text’s authors examine 1,346 attempted trades over a 12-month period and highlight a number of important trends regarding the origins, preferred types and intended uses of the various firearms and weapons that were part of the trades.
