This publication takes stock of the implementation of the UN’s women, peace, and security (WPS) agenda by looking at 1) characteristics of the current geopolitical context that are of concern to the defense of women’s rights; 2) what these changes have meant for how the international community seeks to build peace and improve security, and 3) how approaches to implementing WPS commitments in relation to these pressures on the multilateral system can be evaluated. The text’s authors conclude that in order for the WPS agenda to be an effective tool, it must move beyond rhetoric and be woven into actionable policy.
