This report explains the concept of the next generation electrical power grid, the "Smart Grid." The Smart Grid allows either reallocating electricity during times of crisis or peak demand or preventing outages through proactive diagnosis. The author examines the security, economic and environmental benefits of implementing the Smart Grid.
