This paper addresses women's political participation and decision-making roles and their economic opportunities in the border area of Macedonia, Serbia and Kosovo. It outlines the national gender policies with a focus on the Gjilan/Gnjilane-Presevo-Kumanovo-Trgoviste (GPKT) micro-region and it makes recommendations to local and central governments, international donors, and local NGOs. The author concludes that both local and national governments need to consolidate and integrate legislation concerning gender equality and to take concrete action by creating conditions and corrective mechanisms in that respect.
