This paper analyzes Brazil’s growing socio-economic engagement in Africa and its possible consequences for Europe and North America. Among other things, the paper 1) provides a comprehensive historical account of Brazil’s shifting presence on the African continent, and 2) examines the country’s UN-related role as a recognized security and development provider in the Sub-Saharan region. In light of Brazil’s active interests in Africa, the text’s author closes by encouraging the EU and US to deal with Brazil directly when setting up UN-backed interventions on the Continent.
