This paper is a contribution to an initiative on how to change the paradigm that dominates government negotiations on trade, finance and intellectual property by subordinating commercial interests to social and environmental norms. The author illustrates ways in which civil society has been able to move the outcome of multilateral negotiations in favor of better, fairer and more sustainable outcomes.
