According to the authors of this analysis, mediation and other forms of third party conflict prevention, management or resolution appear to be changing. To trace these adjustments, they describe 1) who typically ‘referees’ violent disputes; 2) current mediation styles and approaches; 3) what the analytical literature says about the effectiveness of mediation; and 4) the future of this peace-promoting tool. In the last case, the authors elaborate on why the mediation field needs to be further professionalized.
