This study examines some of the strategies humanitarian aid agencies employed to provide aid in the complex political environment of post-war Sierra Leone. It argues that aid agencies cannot avoid influencing local politics. The author calls for aid agencies to adopt methods that incorporate greater moral and ethical sensitivity, and advocates the use of liaisons by aid agencies who are knowledgeable of local cultural and social institutions.
