This paper describes the formal and informal policy oversight mechanisms governing the international humanitarian aid programs of the Canadian government. It also provides a cursory overview of Canada's humanitarian assistance system. The authors conclude that parliamentary oversight mechanisms are existent, but often ineffective and inactive. Public exposure and humiliation, however, compensates for some of these deficiencies.
