This paper 1) examines the tasks Germany’s Federal Police, state police forces, and the Bundeswehr (armed forces) performed during the country’s 2015 migration crisis, and 2) then contemplates how Switzerland would deal with a similar problem. The Swiss Border Guard (SBG) corps would indeed be supported by civil and military police forces, but the deployability of the latter group would be relatively limited.
