This report examines the strategic landscape of the military competition in space and highlights the dangers and opportunities the US faces in the space arena. The author explains that advancing technology has likely made some degree of offensive space capability inevitable, but calls on the US to draw upon a reinvigorated space diplomacy to establish a stable and secure space environment. The paper discusses a series of pragmatic policy, programmatic and diplomatic steps the US should take to strengthen its security interests in space and help reduce the chances that the military benefits of space will be cut off when the US may most need them.
