This working paper discusses the impact of contemporary land privatization processes and individual titling programs affecting indigenous communities in Latin America. It emphasizes indigenous economies and their production systems. The author presents case studies from Peru, Bolivia, Honduras and Mexico, where neoliberal economic policies during the 1990s promoted land reform. It concludes that the privatization and individualization of land tenure itself has failed to reach expectations.
