This paper documents the impact of value chain activities on poverty, gender and the environment. The authors develop a conceptual framework that can be used to assess the effectiveness of value chains on livelihoods and the environment of small producers and other weak actors in developing countries. The authors conclude with a series of propositions for achieving sustained improvements for disadvantaged groups.
