This working paper examines the question of natural resources and foreign investment with a particular focus on Sub-Saharan Africa. The author exposes how natural resources have a detrimental effect on economic development and institution-building and concludes that the resource curse debate should be placed in the much broader context of how institutions evolve and affect growth.
