This paper questions the underlying rationale behind South Africa's policies towards a medical brain drain. The author challenges the view that the emigration of health workers from developing countries is a setback, and argues that curbing migration may be inconsequential to safeguarding health systems in developing countries. It concludes by calling for a paradigm shift on the migration of health workers.
